The National Park Service administers the National Register of Historic Places. The National Register is the official federal list of districts, sites, buildings, structures, and objects significant in American history, architecture, archeology, engineering, and culture.
Historical & Cultural Conservation
The Virginia Department of Historic Resources is the State Historic Preservation Office. Their mission is to foster, encourage, and support the stewardship of Virginia’s significant historic, architectural, archaeological, and cultural resources. .
The Norfolk City Planning Commission and the Norfolk Design Review Committee (which advises the Planning Commission on matters of design) are charged with reviewing all proposed alterations that are visible from the public right-of-way and located within the Ghent Historic and Cultural Conservation Districts.
