Holiday Party!!!!
Join us for our annual Holiday Celebration that really celebrates YOU! We’re going to have a fire-pit with a s’mores bar, a boozy hot chocolate bar, yummy finger food and sweets, beer and wine and a lot of fun. The event is at the Fred Heutte Garden (our community partner and great friend to the GNL). We look forward to seeing you and encourage you to wear your holiday finest (ugly xmas sweater to gold lame evening gown, we’re all about sartorial celebrations too!) See you soon!!!
December Community Clean Up!
Join us for our popular monthly community clean up. Keep Norfolk Beautiful supplies fabulous grabbers and vests and we go to town on trash in Ghent. This month we’re meeting up at Olney and Colonial and really want to take care of the median down Olney, which looks pretty sad. If you’ve got ‘em bring clippers, a lot of the trees need pruning at the base. Then you can wander as you like filling your bag with detritus. We look forward to seeing you there, it’s always nice to start the weekend with a little community service and we really appreciate your help!!

We’ve had a banner year so far at the GNL, building community, growing, starting initiatives that benefit our entire community and working to beautify Ghent while educating Norfolk’s youth. Thank you so much for your support, your patience with our growing pains, and your love of this wondrous neighborhood. That’s something we all have in common!

Calling our Clean Up Specialists!
Come out and help the GNL Keep Ghent Beautiful. With help from our friends at Keep Norfolk Beautiful, we provide grabbers, vests and bags. You wear gloves and ratty clothes. We’re meeting at 8AM (Yes, early, but it’s great to get it done before your day really starts) and filling bags full of the usual odds n’ ends. We’re meeting at Baldwin and Manteo. See you there!!!!

Halloween Decorating Contest
It’s that time of year again! Get your spooky up and out and show us your scariest Halloween Decorations.
On the 30th we’ll choose a neighborhood winner. Send us the addresses of your favorite frights and we’ll be sure to check them out. The winner gets a yard sign, some GNL swag and most fantastic of all, bragging rights.
This contest is all in fun. An odd numbered group of League Members vote on their favorites, bicker and choose the winner. You may not agree with us and we get it, it’s really hard to choose with so many great showings. Happy Halloween!!!!

Ghent Garden Club!
Join us at the Fred Heutte Center for Garden Club. This month we’ll be going over our pre-orders for our Holiday Fundraiser, Enjoy a talk on ‘The biggest mistakes gardeners make’ celebrate our community clean up at the Van Wyck Library and create mushroom ornaments for the holidays. See you there!
The club is open to men and women who love green spaces, gardens and being outside.

Van Wyck Community Clean Up and Service
We’re joining forces with the Norfolk Run Club, The Ghent Garden Club and Norfolk Master Gardeners to weed, mulch and beautify Ghent’s beloved Van Wyck Library. The city is providing the mulch.
We’ll be weeding the entire site if possible, trimming, placing mulch and putting two planters in.
We start at eight and will go until we finish. We ask that you bring a shovel and wear gloves, though if you don’t have a shovel that’s great, some folks will bring extras. If you have a weeding tool you like bring that. Also, we’re asking folks who can bring a wheelbarrow to do so.
See you there as we give our lovely neighborhood branch library a little love!!!!
GNL Tour of the Ryan Resilience Lab and monthly social!!
The Ryan Resilience Lab is graciously hosting a private tour for the Ghent Garden Club and Ghent Neighborhood League on Friday, September 20th at 4PM at 4610 Colley Avenue. Come learn about all the good work the Resilience Lab is doing in our community.
After the tour we’re meeting up at Hank’s Filling Station at 5:30.
You need to rsvp for the tour as space is limited to 30 ppl. so email admin@ghentneighborhoodleague.org to make sure you get a spot.

Community Clean Up!
Join us on the corner of Princess Anne and Colonial Avenue to clean up the residential streets in that area! Please wear gloves and comfortable clothes. The clean ups take about and hour and a half and make you feel like a good citizen! See you there!
Garden Club!
This month at Garden Club we’re going to have a presentation on small space gardening by Norfolk Master Gardeners, and we’re going to update on our Van Wyck Beautification Project. We’re also going to make cyanotypes on paper and pebbles, which will be fun and gorgeous! RSVP to ghentgardenclub@gmail.com if you’re coming. We’re an open club, you don’t need to live in Ghent or be a GNL member to join.

July Garden Club
This month Garden Club is going to have two featured speakers! First up is Matthew Thompson, the Head Librarian at Van Wyck, to speak about potential improvements to Van Wyck’s landscaping, and the a speaker from Norfolk Master Gardeners is going to share tips and pointers on small garden cultivation, perfect for Ghent’s small urban gardens. Then we’ll work on our upcoming Fall Fundraiser. It’s at 4PM at the Fred Heutte Center. See you then!

Happy fourth of July!!
Today we’re having a community Bike Parade. We’ll start at Mowbray Arch and Olney and bike from there to the Chrysler Museum and then back to Stockley Gardens. We’ll have fun prizes for the best decorated bikes. After the ride we’ll make ice cream Sundaes. From 10-11:30 (so ice cream Sundaes for lunch, yay!).
This Saturday the 6th we have our monthly Ghent Walkabout, where we clean up trash in Ghent from 8AM-9:30AM. It’s fun way to get outside and do some good. This Saturday the 6th we’re meeting At Colley and Redgate to clean up the blocks between Colley and Hampton, heading towards 21st Street. We’ll see you there! Keep Norfolk Beautiful supplies grabbers, vests and bags, so wear grubby clothes and closed-toe shoes.
June Garden Club
Our monthly Garden club meeting at the Fred Heutte Center, 1000 Botetourt Gardens. This month we’re going to make terrariums, enjoy a presentation on container gardening from Norfolk Master Gardeners, and learn about our sponsor project, the Van Wyck Library. Ghent Garden Club!
It’s the inaugural meeting of the new Ghent Garden Club! From 4-6 PM on Sunday May 26th at the Heutte Center, 1000 Botetourt Gardens in Ghent.
Come build a gardening Community with us, with an emphasis on small space gardens and sustainability.
All you need to garden is a windowsill!
